Miller laryngoscope blades
The Miller is a straight laryngoscope blade. Its tip passes beyond the epiglottis and lifts it directly, which is why it is widely used for neonates, infants and young children. GERATI makes 18 reusable Miller blades in sizes 00 to 4, in conventional and fiber optic versions.

What is a Miller blade?
A Miller blade has a straight spatula with a slight upward curve at the tip and a low, open flange. The clinician places the tip under the epiglottis and lifts it straight up to expose the vocal cords. A Macintosh blade does the opposite: its curved tip sits in front of the epiglottis, in the vallecula, and lifts it indirectly.
The narrow, straight profile suits patients with a small mouth and a relatively large, floppy epiglottis, which is why Miller blades are standard in neonatal and paediatric airway sets. Larger sizes are also used in adults when a curved blade does not give a clear view.
All Miller blades use the same hook-on fitting as the Macintosh, so they work on the same battery handle. Only the light system has to match.

Three light versions
Every Miller size is made in all three versions. Working lengths are the same across versions.
GA 201 Conventional
LED lamp on the blade, powered through the handle contact. Lower cost. Remove the lamp before reprocessing. Fits conventional handles GB 200, 202 and 203.
GA 202 Fiber optic, interchangeable
Lamp in the handle; a fiber light guide carries light to the tip and can be removed from the blade for cleaning or replacement. Fits green-system handles GB 300, 302 and 303.
GA 203 Fiber optic, fixed tube
Fiber guide laser welded to the blade: no gaps, fewer parts, simpler reprocessing. Fits green-system handles GB 300, 302 and 303.

Miller blade sizes and product codes
The last two digits of the code give the size. Size 00 ends in -20, size 0 in -00.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Miller laryngoscope blade used for?
It is used to view the vocal cords and place a breathing tube. Because it lifts the epiglottis directly, it is widely used for neonates, infants and young children, and in some adults when a curved blade does not give a clear view.
What is the difference between a Miller and a Macintosh blade?
The Miller is straight and its tip lifts the epiglottis directly. The Macintosh is curved and its tip sits in the vallecula, lifting the epiglottis indirectly. Both fit the same handle.
What sizes do Miller blades come in?
GERATI makes Miller sizes 00, 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, with working lengths from 45 mm to 180 mm. Size 00 is commonly used for extremely preterm newborns, 0 for preterm newborns, 1 for term newborns and infants, 2 for children, and 3 and 4 for adults. Size choice is always a clinical decision.
Do you make a Miller 1.5 blade?
Not in our standard range. Our Miller sizes are 00 to 4. Other sizes can be discussed as an OEM design change.
Do Miller blades fit the same handle as Macintosh blades?
Yes. Both use the ISO 7376 hook-on fitting. Conventional blades need a conventional handle and fiber optic blades need a green-system fiber optic handle.
How are Miller blades reprocessed?
Clean with an enzymatic cleaner, then steam sterilize (pre-vacuum 132–134 °C for 4 minutes, or gravity 121 °C for 30 minutes) or use high-level disinfection. Remove the lamp first on conventional blades. Follow the instructions for use.
