Four light systems

Conventional blades fit conventional handles; the three fiber optic versions fit green-system fiber optic handles.

Conventional

LED lamp on the blade, powered through the handle contact. Remove the lamp before reprocessing.

Fiber optic, interchangeable

Lamp in the handle; the fiber light guide can be removed from the blade for cleaning or replacement.

Fiber optic, fixed tube

Fiber guide laser welded to the blade: no gaps, fewer parts, easier reprocessing.

Fiber optic, integrated

Fiber channel built into the blade body for a smooth, low-profile surface.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Macintosh and Miller blades?

The Macintosh is curved and lifts the epiglottis indirectly from the vallecula. The Miller is straight and lifts the epiglottis directly, which many clinicians prefer for babies and young children.

Which blade size is most common for adults?

Macintosh 3 for most adults and Macintosh 4 for larger adults. Size choice is always a clinical decision.

Do fiber optic blades fit conventional handles?

No. Fiber optic blades need a fiber optic (green-system) handle, which holds the lamp. Conventional blades need a conventional handle.

What is a fixed tube fiber optic blade?

A blade where the fiber light guide is laser welded in place. There are no gaps where contamination can collect, which makes reprocessing simpler.

How are the blades reprocessed?

Clean with an enzymatic cleaner, then steam sterilize (pre-vacuum 132–134 °C for 4 minutes, or gravity 121 °C for 30 minutes) or use high-level disinfection. Remove lamps first on conventional blades. Follow the instructions for use.
