Conventional or fiber optic?
This choice decides which handle you need. The two systems are not interchangeable.
Conventional
The LED lamp sits on the blade and draws power through its contact with the handle.
- Lower cost per set
- Remove the lamp before reprocessing
- Handles: GB 200, 202, 203
Fiber optic (green system)
The LED lamp sits in the handle and a fiber bundle carries the light to the blade tip. Handles carry a green ring.
- No electrical parts in the blade
- Brighter, cooler light at the tip
- Handles: GB 300, 302, 303

Frequently asked questions
What is a laryngoscope used for?
A laryngoscope is used to see the larynx and vocal cords, most often to place an endotracheal (breathing) tube during anaesthesia, emergency care and intensive care.
What are the main parts of a laryngoscope?
A battery handle, which holds the power source, and a detachable blade, which lifts the tongue and epiglottis. A lamp lights the airway, either on the blade (conventional) or in the handle (fiber optic).
Which blade size is used for adults?
Macintosh 3 is the most common adult size, and Macintosh 4 is used for larger adults. Blade selection is always a clinical decision.
Will GERATI blades fit other brands' handles?
Our blades and handles use the hook-on fitting dimensions in ISO 7376, and fiber optic models follow the green system. Match conventional blades to conventional handles and fiber optic to fiber optic, and test samples with your existing equipment.
Can laryngoscope blades be autoclaved?
Yes. GERATI blades can be steam sterilized up to 134 °C. Remove lamps and batteries before reprocessing, and follow the instructions for use.
Do you sell single-use laryngoscopes?
Our catalogue range is reusable. Contact us if your tender requires single-use items.
